Modern Farmhouse Trend 2021 – Dark Trim, Doors, and Accessories

Modern farmhouse is trending in a big way! Dark chairs, trims, doors, kitchens and accessories are having a really big moment this year and I love it! This is not replacing our fav rustic look, its just a more sophisticated look…like farmhouse grew up! Will it become the little black dress of home design or is it just a trend? Only time will tell…but who cares…you know we aren’t big trend followers at The Striped Barn, we like what we like!

I was never on board with the dark appliances that surfaced a few years ago and lasted all of a moment… but I love the dark accents in doors and trims! I have always loved dark chairs and accessories to pop a space.

Colors come and go in the design world so I love being a neutral girl and popping color when and where it’s needed.

I love this space and those black chairs just make this kitchen pop… the light wood contrast with grays and copper is balanced to perfection!
Tip: Metals count as color too

Charcoal gray is a fav and goes great with black accents… love the way it pops the darker colors in the wood! Tip: You can hand pick your wood pieces before it’s installed to get the look you want

This is the perfect trifecta in dark home accents! Trim, fireplace and furniture…and balanced with the light wood it’s not overdone!
TIP: Less is more to create an impact

So what do you think? Will it become classic or trendy?

    Happy Designing!

    Small Celebrations with Big Ideas

It’s all about the details, not about the size when planning your wedding or celebration. Smaller and more intimate doesn’t mean smaller ideas. In fact, it can be the opposite, you can spend more time on priorities like making sure everyone stays cozy with their own faux fur blankets!

With less guests you can really get custom and personal and you can still have that big party later. If you are a DIYer you will love coming up with custom décor, like handwritten place cards or custom-tailored favors. Not a DIYer, you can still be involved in all the personal touches.

Small and intimate equals “romantic and cozy”, at least I think so. On top of a mountain, a field, a forest, the beach. Use your imagination and find the perfect destination. Definitely less stress and less expensive.

Simple is heartfelt. Think of family and friends gathering for a bar b q or potluck and how everyone comes together and spends quality time. You can get creative with the food display like using antique drawers and dishes. A food truck or mobile bar is perfect for your drive-up destination.

There is so much inspiration to get your ideas going, just remember to give it that personal touch and put your own spin on it…make it your own!

Trend Alert – Wood Look Porcelain Plank Tile Sources For Every Style

Hi Friends of The Striped Barn and thanks for stopping by!

I am definitely all about wood, but let’s face it…sometimes there’s a certain situation or an area where real wood is just not a good choice. As much as it breaks my heart to say that…its true. Don’t try to compare tile with wood because there is no comparison…but… if you can’t do wood, tile planks are a great alternative to get that wood charm!

Wood look porcelain tile is a big trend and for all the right reasons. It’s less expensive than real wood, great in humid areas, and… some of them really do look authentic! They are perfect for pets, rentals, or damp areas like a mudrooms or basements. I have listed a variety of my favs below whether you want inexpensive, or luxury. Porcelain is more durable than ceramic and can also be used outdoors…in my opinion its worth it. $2-$8 Ceramic, $5-$12 Porcelain

Save money by ordering your own tiles but get a good installer if you’re not a DIYer…believe me…you do not want to install on a cracked or damaged subfloor and you want to waterproof your subfloor.

    A FEW QUICK TIPS:

TIP: Order 10-20% more I cannot emphasize this enough; you will thank me later when you try to match it.

Choose an option with some texture or nonsliptrust me on this, falling is not fun.

Stay thin with your grout, around 1/32” and seal your grout...remember wood planks don’t have grout

Tile can be cold, but you can install radiant heating underneath…that’s one thing you can’t do with wood!

Click on the pics for links…happy shopping!

    2021 Trend – Gray

Welcome all my Striped Barn friends! Are you wondering what the color trends are for 2021? Or are you someone who chooses your décor and colors based on what you like? I’m the latter. But…I always stay up on the trends! So whether you are team neutral or team color…there are different ways to let your colors shine through!

Sources: Brander design/ onekindesign.com/? Gibeon photography

I don’t care if peacock blue is in…you won’t find it in my home because I’m a neutral girl. It doesn’t mean I don’t like color or wouldn’t love it in your home…its just that we all have our own taste when it comes to home decor. For instance, this year Pantone chose GRAY AND YELLOW for their 2021 COLORS OF THE YEAR and I’m so happy that they finally picked a neutral and even one of my favs!! Yellow is not something I personally would use a lot of, but I think its a great color for Easter and spring decorating, summer accents or happy pops of color! The great news is they picked 2 this year so its a win win whether you are team neutral or team color!

NEUTRALS ARE A GREAT WAY TO SHOW YOUR STYLE and you can get your “color fix” with them because they really are more interesting than you think, and they don’t fight each other, THEY WORK AS A TEAM. Plus, think of the fun you get to have all year decorating with unlimited “holiday and seasonal color”! You can see how something as simple as the green plant in the photo below “pops” in a neutral setting.

    Source: engelvolrkers.com

DECORATING WITH NEUTRALS IS GREAT BECAUSE you can GET EASILY BORED WITH ONE COLOR SCHEME. Seriously… 2 years was always my max before I would get rid of everything and change to a new color and style because I would get bored! I know some of you are shaking your head right now thinking yes, that’s me too! But… a great way to add color is with natural elements like TEXTURES! In the photo below the natural color of the fireplace stone natural has color and the view is living color at its finest! That is my kind of color…

    Source: investorsinproperty.com

ALL OF MY POSTS ARE NEUTRAL because I love how neutral feels and how it feels like nature, the outdoors and natural elements. It allows us to see and feel the space in a good way without all the busyness and it SETS A GREAT BACKGROUND FOR IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE OUR TREASURES OR A GREAT VIEW! Pops of color are much more effective than too much color! If you think you need lots of trendy color to freshen up your space, TRY DOING THE OPPOSITE AND PULL IN THE NEUTRALS…you will be amazed at the interest you can create with “SUBTLE COLOR”. I bet you will love it!

    Happy Decorating!

    Big Décor, Intimate Venues

You can thank 2020 for making this more popular! Smaller, outdoor settings, nature inspired places to say I Do are having a moment! This gazebo may be small, but the décor is big! Add nature and snow and it is amazing!

This is not really new, but it has become the “it” in wedding décor! Handmade, DIY centerpieces are trending more than huge bouquets of flowers!
